    BBQ – Derek’s place

    4:00 pm to late

    Venue: Derek’s place
    No Charge event
    BYO wine
Food Your committee arrange the meat and salmon, and we ask participants to contribute by providing a salad or dessert, this should be sufficient for about eight people. This year we would ask that if your street address has an odd number, that you provide a salad and an even number, a dessert.

We have noted in recent years that newer members have not always attended this event.  I encourage you to do so. The weather does not matter, the venue has covered outdoor areas to suit any occasion, including rain. The BBQ is a great opportunity to mix and mingle so please think seriously about attending.

Anne asks you to bring any screw caps along that you have been collecting over the holiday period.

    Tasting - Mahi Wines, Marlborough

    7:45 - 9:45 pm

Venue: Johnsonville Community Centre Hall, 30 Moorefield Rd, Johnsonville, Wellington 6037 - Directions
Entry fee: Members $14 Guests $18
    Presenter: Brian Bicknell

Mahi, meaning ‘our work, our craft’, began in 2001, fulfilling a dream for Brian and Nicola Bicknell

Brian is an engaging presenter, winemaker and owner of Mahi with wide international experience. They create a series of wines from their different vineyard sites across Marlborough to show the region has true depth and complexity. Their very first harvest was from a vineyard located in the Conder’s Bend part of Marlborough – Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir from the Byrne vineyard. This is now an organic site.

‘The primary emphasis for all of Mahi’s wines is texture, aiming for wines that give real palate satisfaction rather than fruit-bomb styles.’

Wines we will be tasting during the evening are from the different vineyards under the
Mahi banner, so we get to experience how the different plots produce different wines:

    • Rosé to start
    • 2 x Sauvignons – vertical tasting
    • 3 x Chardonnays – vertical tasting
    • 2 x Pinot Noir – vertical tasting

The observant ones reading this will notice that this is an opportunity to taste 8 wines and not our normal 7. So, please make sure you have plenty to eat before coming. It should be a very interesting tasting and one not to be missed.
