    BBQ – Derek’s place

    4:00 pm to late

    Venue: Derek’s place
    No Charge event
    BYO wine
Food, Your committee, arrange the meat, and we ask participants to contribute by providing a salad or dessert; this should be sufficient for about eight people. This year we would ask that if your street address has an even number, you provide a dessert and, an odd number, a salad.

The committee have noted in recent years that newer members have not always attended this event.  I encourage you to do so. The weather does not matter, the venue has covered outdoor areas to suit any occasion, including rain. The BBQ is a great opportunity to mix and mingle so please think seriously about attending.

Anne asks you to bring any screw caps along that you have been collecting over the holiday period.

Tasting - Celebrating the Wines of Victoria, Australia

    7:45 - 9:45 pm

Venue: Johnsonville Community Centre Hall, 30 Moorefield Rd, Johnsonville, Wellington 6037 - Directions
    Entry fee: Members $14 & Guests $18
    Presenter: Keith Tibble, EuroVintage

There is much to admire and emulate in the wines of Australia. For many members such wines may well be amongst your favourites. Perhaps such wines are from South Australia, perhaps Western Australia, but for this tasting to kick the year off for the club we are highlighting Victoria.

    Wines to taste from:

    • Mount Langhi (Ghiran) is an extremely famous cool climate-based winery in the Grampian range of Northern Victoria; and
    • Yering Station is an acclaimed producer almost as famous for its cellar door and restaurant as their amazing Yarra Valley Wines.

    Tasting - Forrest Estate

    7:45 - 9:45 pm

Venue: Johnsonville Community Centre Hall, 30 Moorefield Rd, Johnsonville, Wellington 6037 - Directions
    Entry fee: Members $14 & Guests $18
Presenter: Carlos Rojas Stiven, NZ Sales Manager

Generations of Craft, Generations of Flavours, Generations of Marlborough.

    Wines t o taste include:

    • Forrest Albarino
    • Forrest Chenin Blanc
    • Forrest Gruner Veltliner
    • The Doctors Riesling
    • Tatty Bogler (Waitaki) Pinot Noir
    • Forrest Lagrein
    • Forrest Botrytised Riesling

The story of Forrest will always be firmly connected to the world-class wine-growing region of Marlborough.

For many generations, the family have called this land their home. Even when John and Brigid Forrest led successful scientific research and medicine careers, they left it all behind to try their hand at a reasonably green New Zealand wine industry in the late 1980s.

With their first vintage coming in 1990 — the result of an over-filled red wine fermenter “accidentally” birthing a trophy-winning Merlot Rosé — Forrest has been enjoying success after success ever since.

Fast forward over 30 years, and Forrest is set for generations.

    TAG: Askerne

John last presented to the Club in February 2019 and his presentation was a delight, both because of his delivery and the wines themselves. This month’s tasting promises to be equally compelling as we get the chance to taste the following wines:

    • 2022 Askerne Sérieux Rosé
    • 2020 Askerne Sémillon
    • 2022 Askerne Reserve Chardonnay
    • 2021 Askerne Gewürztraminer
    • Askerne Merlot Malbec Cabernet Sauvignon
    • 2021 Askerne Cabernet Franc
    • 2019 Askerne Late Harvest Sémillon

This selection of Hawkes Bay wines promises a lot and I’m sure we will not be disappointed by their taste or quality. Make sure you are there to find out which will be your favourite.

Let’s Look Out for Each Other (still)

As always, please if you are feeling unwell, do not attend the evening’s presentation. Thanks, Your committee.

Member prize draw

Members’ prize draw is at each meeting, but you must be present to win. We also have a raffle draw to be won. Purchase your tickets at the door and be in to win.

Drinking and driving

Members will be aware of lowering drink/drive limits from December 2014. If unsure, read the Land Transport Amendment Act (no 2) 2014. We ask members to be conscious of these limits. For those driving, water and some food are provided or think about a designated driver, taxi, Uber, or dial-a-driver to get you home safely.

Wine bottle screw caps

Anne is collecting them to give to the Lions organised Kan Tabs for Kids. No food lids or beer tops, please. Save and bring them to the next monthly meeting.
